Section 2: Starting a Rural Accommodation
2.1. From Idea to Plan: Creativity Sequence

2.1.1. Step 1: WHY? Conducting Market Survey

You need to have an idea of the general market situation and trends in the future before you start planning your own accommodation. Normally you can find thisinformationwell summarized in a report of the national tourism organization. You should also collect datafrom the Internet and available leaflets on the existing offers, prices, demands and developments at the regional level. This will help you assess the situation at this moment as well as implications for your business in the long term.

At this point, your market survey should help you answer the question which shape your business shall adopt to become a success. Later on, when you have a well-shaped product and an established price policy, you will have to come back to the market survey and define your main competitors with similar services and prices. Then you should pay visits to yourmajor competitors to experience their service, understand their weak and strong points (e.g., why they are faster / cheaper / more reliable than you) in order to work out your own competitive advantages and strengthen them.
