Chemical Accidents – Burns and Poisoning

Chemical burn is the most common type of the chemical accident. If it happens, you should flush away the chemical under the cold running water for a long time, apply a commercial ointment for burns, thick layer of honey or thick paste of baking soda and water, and put a loose bandage on the hurt place. If the accident involves an eye, you should immediately flush it with plenty of running water, call for immediate medical help, and meanwhile cover the eye with a sterile pad.

In case of poisoning by swallowing a chemical, make the person drink milk or water to dilute it and call the ambulance to ask for instructions for this particular poison. Only if the chemical is known and is not a corrosive substance (acid, cleaning fluid) or a petroleum product (gasoline, paint thinner, lighter liquid) induce vomiting and later give some activated coal. If the chemical is not known, do not take any actions and look for professional medical aid.
