Fire Injuries – Burns and Shock

You can only treat the burn yourself in case of light burns - if the skin is reddened, slightly swollen or covered with welts. The part of body with the burnt skin (and clothes) should be placed in any vessel with cold water available at the moment (it can be a bath, shower, canal, etc., for increasing and prolonging the effect, ice can be added). After that a commercial ointment for burns, thick layer of honey or thick paste of baking soda and water should be applied, and the burn bandaged loosely.

In case the skin is blistered or charred or burnt over a large area (burns of a harder degree) the professional medical help should be delivered ASAP.

In case of a shock when the person is dazed, pale/flushed, breathes weakly, irregularly and with difficulties, loses consciousness or vomits, call the ambulance. Meanwhile have the person lie on the floor, make the head level the same or slightly higher than the body’s, loosen clothes at the chest and neck, apply cool wet bath towels and later on cover him/her with a blanket. Do not give anything to drink or eat.
