7.4.2. Common Accidents/Incidents and First Aid

Other Common Household Injuries, Electric Shock, Ear/Eye/Nose Injury, Fainting

In case of an electric accident, disconnect the house/room electric switch and separate the person from the source of contact with electricity. If the shock is strong and the person is not breathing, start doing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (put one hand under the neck, the other on the forehead, pinch the nostrils of the injured, take a deep breath, seal your mouth over his/hers and blow slowly breathes into the victim every 5 seconds). Meanwhile somebody should call the ambulance.

Ear/Eye/Nose injuries usually are not fatal and occur rather often. In case of a foreign object in the ear, fill the ear with warm olive oil, wait for 5 minutes and make the person turn the head so that the injured ear is downward. Never put oil if the object can swell (e.g., wood, absorbent). In case of a foreign object in the eye staying there for a long time after flushing with water, or metal crap, or cut surface of the eye, immediately drive your guest to the hospital and if that is not possible call the ambulance. In case of strong and continuous nosebleed, apply a cold compress or ice to the bridge of the nose and to the base of the skull.

In case of fainting, lay the person down with his/her head lower than the rest of the body, preferably in the cool fresh air.
