Section 5: Extra Facilities and Services Provided

5.1. Parking

More and more tourists prefer travellingwith their own car or they can rent car. Private cars are especially convenient for those who decide to spend a long weekend in the countryside or in a difficult-to-access area and does not want to rely on the public transport. If the majority of the clientele comes by car, a guest-oriented accommodation entrepreneur will arrange an appropriate parking area somewhere nearby (if the location permits).

Preferably, parking should be arranged within a fenced territory next to the accommodation. The limited access to the parking lot, for instance, provided only to the guests of the facility passing by car through the gates that close at midnight can ensure necessary security. Any parking area needs to be clearly marked. Usuallythe parking space allocated for each guestroom should be 5.5m x 2.6m, though the standards can vary in different countries. In case there is no direct access or territory available for parking next to the accommodation, the owner should think of some place nearby (as close as possible) that can be safe enough for parking. A luxury option for a parking place is a garage, which is especially convenient during wintertime.

For the reasons of safety and comfort of your guests you can equip your parking place with lighting and max speed signs. In autumn and winter ice and snow have to be removed regularly from the whole area, as well as litterall year round. Make sure that clients with cars do not disturb other guests: set a noise threshold and try to arrange your parking place away from the guest rooms. For people coming back late at night provide parking outside the main accommodation area.

Finally, do not forget tomake availableinformation on the parking area and conditions to each guest together with access instructions (map).
