You can describe an accommodation as a space to stay and sleep. In this case a lodging-house or space for tourists. Related to the topic the accommodation is situated in the rural area.
A rural accommodation is situated in the country. Given the fact mentioned in unit 1 that 91% of the surface of the EU is rural, there are a lot of opportunities to create rural accommodations for tourism .
Service is demanding a lot of service oriented people which are good for employment reasons.Till now there is not an EU Star/Flower category qualification for rural accommodations.
There
is, according to the Slovenian Tourist Board (see www.Slovenia.info), an EU ECO
Label since 2003 for eco-accommodations, represented by the emblem
of the EU flower. It is recognized throughout the EU and is a perfect marketing
tool for green tourism.
Hotels, rural accommodations, but also camp grounds can obtain such a label.
Rural accommodations that have such a label are targeting at green tourism.
The management of these accommodations tries to reduce air pollution by using nature friendly paint and cleaning agents (see Section 6. and 8.). Fertilisers and pesticides are not used. Organic food is used in the catering. Energy saving is another item . Energy can be obtained from wind by windmills or solar cells.
On national level there are several qualifications. See 1.3.
