3.2. Reception and Common Lounge

3.2.1. Reception

The reception at your accommodation is the first and the last point of contact for your guests. It means that the final impression of your business, facilities, and staff will be made by this part of your accommodation.

The design of the reception and the furniture should fit in the general theme of your accommodation and create a certain tone/mood that makes a positive impression on the newly-arrived client.

The equipment at the reception should be functional - in such a way that all the furniture for performing typical reception operations is present. As discussed in section 4.. Dealing with guests, the main operations at the reception include welcome, check-in, check-out, providing guests with information, making reservations, receiving payment and feedback. The reception furniture usually consists of quite a simple practical set: a chair and a desk equipped with a computer or a special notepad for registering the guests (if reservations are made manually), a rack that holds keys from guests’ rooms, a cash register (or equipment allowing for payment by a credit card or bankcard), a telephone, a file cabinet for keeping different documents (room availability graph, reservation records, guest cards, payment registry, cleaning schedule, etc.), and a rack with information for the convenience of your guests.
