Section 4.3: Intermediaries

Intermediaries to your service such as tour operators or tourism boards and associations are very important to your business because they are most of the time the first link between you and your customers. There are two aspects which are most relevant when dealing with intermediaries: their reliability and the transmission of information.

Your intermediaries must always be reliable bodies. If they give you wrong information or this does not arrive in time this will reflect in your performance and the services you provide. Also they must comply with your quality and sustainability standards, as they are always considered part of your business. The reliability of intermediaries also refers to their ability to meet deadlines or processing payments in time as delays in this area can seriously affect your business.

Another important issue when working with intermediaries is the transmission of information. As providers of information to customers you must be sure that intermediaries always are provided with the latest and most accurate information about your business. When possible, invite those persons directly involved in dealing with the public to visit your business and experience for themselves the product they are selling or booking. Make sure that you answer all questions and are available for them to make enquiries.
