The general term is "Turismo Rural" (rural tourism) is referring to any small-scale touristic activity in rural areas. "AgroTurismo" is only a sub-product within this general frame, representing between 5 - 80% of the total offer depending on the region; a medium value is estimated in less than 20%.
The main mission of rural tourism development is to stop the rural depopulation, creating alternative income opportunities. It gives also the opportunity to get some new human contacts. Development and concepts of rural tourism differ strongly from region to region. The different definitions and names for accommodation types per regions are confusing for clients.
