Section 3: Rural Accommodation Facilities and Equipment

3.5. Sanitary Unit

A private shower and a toilet in each room nowadays have become standard. These facilities are more and more required by tourists who look for adventures. If each room has a bathroom, normally it should be provided with soap, shampoo, and towels (face, hand and bath towels).

In some accommodations it is impossible to ensure private facilities in each room. Then an alternative may be a private bathroom located in the corridor or a shared bathroom in a lower class accommodation. Usually the shared option is not appreciated by clients. In the case of shared facilities, cleaning shall be done more frequently to ensure the proper hygiene. Soap and shampoo can be offered on a for-sale basis.

Basic set of items in a sanitary unit:

  • Shower/bath
  • Washbasin
  • Soap holder
  • Shaver/hair dryer outlets
  • Shaving/make-up mirror
  • Towel rail
  • Waste bin
  • Non-slip mat
  • Toilet paper roll holder with tissue
